ABCO is on the fast track to growing and expanding its local, national, and worldwide business. ABCO has won numerous “Fast 50” awards, which are awarded to the fastest growing private companies in the Triad, and won the North Carolina Mid-Market FAST 40 award in 2017.
The NC Department of Labor has recognized ABCO Automation as an outstanding company in promoting and maintaining an excellent safety record. The annual award is based on injury and illness incidence rates which must be 50 percent below the industry average.
While ABCO is an automation specialist for robotics, turnkey packaging lines, controls, custom-built equipment, assembly, material handling, inspection equipment, and build-to-print machines, we deliver beyond automation. With our solutions, clients not only gain efficiencies, increased quality, and cost savings, they secure a competitive advantage—and the key to making all of that happen is our employees.
Our company’s motto is simple: wear the customer’s hat. We encourage staff to think like a client so they can add value no matter what their role. With our Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), we make it easier to step into the client’s shoes. As a benefit, employees earn company-purchased stock. Having a vested interest in the company, we believe leads to a highly motivated workforce and helps the company achieve exceptional levels of performance. In addition, we recognize that work becomes harder without a good “work/life” balance. We advocate employees to prioritize and balance careers with their wellness, family, and leisure choices, help fellow employees, give back, and enjoy living.
ABCO Automation proudly supports the For Inspiration & Recognition of Science & Technology (FIRST) Robotics Competition. For two weekends in January, ABCO hosts more than 60 students from six local high school robotics teams to help them kick-start their FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) build season. After learning the theme of the competition, each team has just six weeks to design, build, and ship the robot to the FIRST national competition. ABCO is committed to supporting all teams in our area. We provide guidance from our mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and project managers to assist students, their mentors, and coaches.
FIRST Robotics is the one of the most effective programs for encouraging students to pursue an education and career in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) fields. Over the years, we’ve witnessed this program significantly increase the number of high school robotics teams. With our parts manufacturing, machine building capabilities, and the number of engineers, ABCO is uniquely qualified to support these teams.
ABCO Automation is a charter member of Guilford Apprenticeship Partners (GAP). As part of our alliance, we provide apprentice positions for local high school students. We believe this a win-win for all—we supplement our current manufacturing team, and the students gain on the job experience (paid time) while earning a college education. Currently we have four apprentice students learning the skills of an electrician, mechanic, fabricator, and machinist.
ABCO Automation is a founding partner with the Rockingham Apprenticeship and Technical Opportunities Partnership (RockATOP). As part of the program, ABCO will provide 6,400 paid hours of on-the-job learning while students receive 1,600 hours of academic instruction through Rockingham Community College. This collaboration helps create a career pathway for students and manufacturers.
